Matt Allen releases “From The Fire”

Matt Allen has been singing since he could speak. Having already spent well over a decade on the live scene, Matt is one of Perth’s most sought after male vocalists. After graduating from Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2010 as the Most Outstanding Contemporary Music Student, he wrote and recorded his debut album, “Over”. The album’s title track received 8th place in the prestigious 2012 Australian Songwriting Awards, whilst the lead off tune, “Stay The Night” was awarded a Runner Up in the 2012 International Song Contest. In 2017, Matt released his follow up EP entitled ‘Last Time’. The title track was awarded 2nd Place in the Open Category for the Australian Songwriting Awards and two other songs were finalists in the UK Songwriting Awards. Matt moved to London in 2019 and recorded his latest single, ‘From The Fire’ with producer Christian Gulino (Kylie Minogue, Will Young, Sam Smith). Matt’s sound is like a blend between old and new, drawing on influences from the legendary vocals Donny Hathaway to the smooth tones of Justin Timberlake with this latest song have inspiration from The Weeknd and Jarryd James.

Matt’s new single “From The Fire”  has created narratives that seems to ask, can one so blinkered make art that reflects anything besides themselves?  On its surface, the song seems to inspire the listener a chance to convey a personal interpretation.  The production is absolutely spot on and the songwriting really go to show Matt’s dedication to taking his music to the next level. We decided to catch up with Matt Allen to find out brief about the man behind the music..

What inspired you to get into music?
I have been singing ever since I can remember. I remember hearing the music of Stevie Wonder and being totally inspired. He is my musical hero. This latest single is inspired by artists like The Weeknd and Jarryd James.

What would you say is your recording and song writing style?
I nearly always write from the piano with chords and melody first. I usually have a lyrical theme in mind, but write the lyrics to the chords and melody.

Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
I would love to have a song synced in film or tv.

Where can music fans listen to your music?
You can hear it all on major streaming platforms.
