A True Southern Florida HipHop Prodigy

J. Versez is a famous South Florida Hip Hop recording artist who is extremely talented. He is well known for creating tracks with deep vocals and beats that are melodic, smooth, and hypnotic. In particular, J. Versez specializes in creating songs with heavy drums and sampling from various sources such as sampling from underground hip hop mixtapes, old sample packs, and from the wax of famous artists. He is currently signed to Benzion Records, run by none other than Chamillionaire himself John Coody, but more importantly, his music has been featured on the platinum-selling hip-hop album “Love The Life Of Us Now” by Dot Da Genius. J. Versez grew up in Coconut Grove, Florida in what was once a poor area. His early years were spent in and around the Miami area, where he developed a strong sense of rap music appreciation. In particular, J. Versez enjoyed listening to the instrumental classic album The Chronic. J. Versez was also influenced by the music of Guru.

J. Versez has always remained connected to the underground music culture, even though he has reached commercial success. In particular, he repeatedly sampled and utilized samples from different hip-hop artists. Eventually, this became very fashionable with the artists like Kanye West, Jay Z, and Pharrell Williams. He has also recorded several instrumental songs with many famous rappers. He has consistently improved since his beginnings and now has a loyal fan base across the United States and Canada.

We decided to catch up with J. Versez for an exclusive interview with Camden Monthly….

What inspired you to get into music?
Well, the main reason I got started in music is purely because I wanted to get out of my shell. Growing up I was a very shy kid, I never really put myself out there really. I always wanted to be in the back never really liked to try new things. When I turned eighteen and graduated high school. I was determined to be more adventurous and spontaneous. So I chose music to be the starting point and I found out very quickly I was natural and fell in love with music creation.

How would you describe your music?
When I think of my music three words come to mind. Smooth, versatile, and experimental. With my style is heavily influenced by artists like Drake, J.Cole, Kanye West my music is whatever it wants to be. I can’t make one form of music like a lot of artists do. Because my idols were always in the experimental direction but it always stayed in a specific vibe. My vibe is smooth I love making songs that are great to ride in your car to at night or cruise during the day. But, at the same time, I love making those hard-hitting energy tracks with nothing but bars and a simple beat with a great bass hitting over and over again. I also like to try new things and put myself on a new sound.

To sum it all up I like to describe my music ultimately as for everyone.

What would you say is your recording and songwriting style?
I’m still in the process of figure out exactly what more recording style is. With only two hand fulls of songs under my belt, I’m still developing every day. But, as far as my writing is concerned after almost a decade of writing songs. My writing style is the introspective writer and the “recorder” I like to call it. All of my songs are about me and the people that have impacted me. My songs are inspired by my own personal thoughts and feelings. All of the time old and sometimes new emotions. Being an emotional person like myself, feeling things very deeply always translates into a song.

Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
In 5 years? Well, I would love to be an established artist by that time. Rocking out all kinds of different venues and seeing all different kinds of beautiful people in the crowd. I guess you can say be in demand and impact people with my music and my presence.
