Becky Rose talks new music

Becky Rose, is a 28 year old singer/songwriter based in Worcester, UK. She writes, produces and performs music spanning across multiple genres, my favourites being pop and alt-pop. Between 2008 and 2013 she performed around 300 gigs across the UK, including London (Troubador Club, Edinburgh Cellars, Soho Comedy Club, The Camden Head), Manchester (Jackson’s Pit, Taurus), Birmingham (The Island Bar, Actress & Bishop, The Yardbird) and numerous local hot spots (Nozstock, Leamington Peace Festival, The Robin 2, The Marrs Bar). She has released new single ‘Loser’ which is an amazing track which go to show how much she has grown in her songwriting and vocal talent.

We caught up with Becky Rose to find out more about this future star..

What inspired you to get into music?
I used to love listening to music as a kid, and my Dad would put together mixtapes of artists including David Bowie, Queen, The Sweet, and Pink Floyd. I also loved listenning to classical artists like the pop-quartet Bond, and had a love for film scores by Danny Elfman and Hanz Zimmer. This really inspired my quirky over-dramatci styel.

One day I was on my parent’s laptop and stumbled on GarageBand, and found myself for hours on end putting loops together and recording my vocals on the laptop mic. This really inspired my songwriting and producing. On top of that, my sister would listen to Regina Spektor, and this encouraged me to get behind the keyboard and perform solo material myself.

How would you describe your music?
My music is best described as Pop or alternative Pop. And I would describe my repetoire as candid, quirky, dramatic and eclectic.

What would you say is your recording and writing style?
My recording and writing style is experimental and honest. I tend to record by throwing chords or instruments together and seeing what happens… and most of the time I like the outcome! I base my songs on the question of “what kind of music would I want to listen to when I’m feeling a certain way?”. For example, if I’m feeling loved up, anxious, embarrassed, upset, excited, what kind of music would I want to listen to? Because, if I enjoy the music I make, the positive energy will translate to other listeners.

Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
I would like to see my music career take off within 5 years, in a way that inspires people to celebrate their individuality. I would love to be played on major radio stations just like the artists I love today. I am excited to build a songwriting career and perform across the country (if not the world!) with my keys.

Where can music fans listen to your music?
My music is available on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Soundcloud and ReverbNation. Plus, my latest song ‘Loser’ is now available on TikTok and Deezer!
