The modern era of music has given way to enigmas and artists of all shapes and forms who break the norm of what we have come to expect as far as what an artist truly is. Da’Keen is one such artist that epitomises the essence of the modern era. He is a multi-talented vocalist, musician, and songwriter from Atlanta Georgia. Da’Keen is making music that is driven by a desire to motivate, inspire, comfort, and spread love and joy to all those that hear it. Da’Keen is the embodiment of originality and versatility and uses his musical acumen and ideas to create an amalgamated and original sound. He makes music in the new age soul/r&b genre as well as hip hop, house, and Neo-soul and funk genres.
In his new single “Picture Perfect” we find a song that is steeped in adrenaline but chill-inducing in a way that only Da’Keen can possibly deliver. The words are subtly delivered in a half-whisper of a vocal that gradually gets stronger as we progress through the song. There’s a bold chorus being conjured up between the instruments in the background, but nothing gets between us and the intensely hypnotic vocals. Da’Keen has developed his range significantly in the last few years, and in this track, he demonstrates just how nimble a performer he’s become.
These grooves get a little boisterous in the chorus, but he never backs down. Fearlessly he cuts through the rich tonality of the melody with his smoky voice, adding contrast and texture to an otherwise amazing tune.
We decided to catch up with the man himself for a brief interview exclusively for Camden Monthly..
What inspired you to get into music?
